Mothers welcome New Year's babies at KPJ Ampang Puteri Hospital - New Straits Times - 1st Jauary 2018

KUALA LUMPUR: A couple had a pleasant New Year’s gift when they were blessed with a baby which was born only two hours into 2018.

Bank officers Nuralizah Alias and Muhammad Azril Maridzuan, both 40, welcomed their baby boy at 1.57am, almost a fortnight ahead of her due date.

Nuralizah gave birth to the baby, weighing 3.02kg, at KPJ Ampang Putri Hospital here.

She was the first among three mothers to give birth on the New Year’s day.

Nuralizah told New Straits Times that she was not expected to deliver until Jan 14, but she started feeling uneasy on the New Year’s eve.

She said her husband decided to bring her to the hospital and she was immediately being admitted at midnight, after doctors found out that she was in labour.

“Earlier, my family and I had gone out for a spot of shopping as my due date was a bit later. Throughout the day I felt normal, then, I started to feel restless and told my husband about it, and it turned out I was already in labour.

“I’m glad that the birth was normal and was without complications. I guess the baby wanted to welcome the New Year with us.

“His siblings are eager to meet him. My husband and I are planning to name our youngest son, Aqeef.

“We want to keep the letter A, as his older four siblings share the same first letter for their names,” the mother of five from Gombak said.

Meanwhile, Suraya Abdul Razak and her husband Mohd Shahril Abu, 38, welcomed their baby girl at about noon after a 12 hours of going into labour.

Suraya, a business consultant, who looked exhausted but was smiling said her daughter’s birth came unexpectedly as she was only due on Jan 16.

“I started having sharp pains yesterday (Jan 31) and was admitted at about 12.30 am. After waiting for 12 hours, finally my daughter is ready to see the world at 12.28pm.

The baby weighs 2.8kg.

“For now, we have some ideas for her name but could not decide yet as my husband and I thought we still have time to pick out a suitable name,” she said.

Suraya said her eldest daughter and two sons could not wait to meet their youngest sister.

KPJ Ampang Putri said the third baby girl was safely delivered later in the evening.
